Day-3: THE TRAIL OF MISPLACED FAITH

VBS General Session - Day 3

Primary Lesson-3

Synopsis

The Trail Of Misplaced Faith

(God still loves you)

Where is your heart?

Matthew 6:21 says that where your treasure is there your heart shall be also. What do we mean by treasure? Treasure is defined as anything that we hold valuable.

Let us look into any thing or person that we hold valuable so much so that we place it/him/her above all else, even above God. Now match it with the first commandment that God gave us: You shall not have any God before me.

Other Gods here refers to anything that we place above our God. For example: money, friends, our favorite gadget etc.

Characteristics of the rich young ruler:

  • Confident of his own righteousness and of his ability to achieve eternal life
  • Placed his riches above God also; when asked to sell all his possessions and follow God, he denied clearly.
  • He lacked the one most important thing that was required to obtain eternal life

Characteristics of God:

  • God loves us just the way we are. We cannot obtain his love by our own effort. God loves us no matter what or how we are.
  • God not only sees us in our present but is also able to see what we can be in future. So he sees the potential in all of us; to be used for the extension of his kingdom and to be used for his glory
  • God’s promise of eternal life is always true. Whether in the past or present or future. He is an unchanging God. Romans 5:8 tells us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. God did not wait for us to change completely and be completely righteous before giving up his life for us, he did it for us to be free from eternal condemnation and sin.

What can we do to receive eternal life (Application in our lives)

  • Identify what hinders our complete surrender to God. Ask yourself if there’s anything that you love more than Jesus? Is there anything you trust more than God? Maybe it’s a person or thing; Put God first in everything, above everything and every person that you hold precious. This way we surrender completely to God’s hands and that is when he takes full control of our lives. Because we all know that our God can run our lives so much better than we ourselves can do in our own human limitations.
  • Believe in Jesus as the son of God; that he loves us no matter who we are and what we are in this life. That we can depend upon him totally to lead us and guide us and protect us and grow us in all aspects of our lives.

The Bible in Acts 4:12 tells us that there is no other one name through which salvation of mankind is possible except the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Response

Memory Verse:

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
- Romans 3:20
