Day-3: THE TRAIL OF MISPLACED FAITH
VBS General Session - Day 3
Beginners Lesson-3
Synopsis
Bible Passage Reference: Mark 10:17-22
What we love the most gets attention
You know, God asks us to love him most, because he knows that the thing, we love most gets our attention. When a we really, love something, we will do anything to get it. If mumma says you need to eat your food to watch your favourite cartoon, don’t you think you will eat your food immediately. If mumma says you can go out and play with your friends only if you finish your homework, will you not do it immediately? Yes, you will do it immediately right because some of you love watching your favourite cartoon or playing with your friends more than anything else.
Now, let’s see a funny video. As we watch, see if you can figure out what the snowman wants...and what he’s willing to do to get it.

So, what did the snowman want? (Let kids say: his nose) And what was he willing to do to get it? (Let kids say: fight a moose, break his whole body, slide on the ice, etc.) That’s right! Nothing else mattered except getting his nose. The snowman almost gave up his body...for his nose.
Bible story
Today, I am going to tell you a story about a rich man who met Jesus and what he loved the most in his life. This story is from the gospel of Mark chapter 10, from verses 17 – 22.
One day Jesus was walking down the road and a rich man came to Him, knelt before Him and asked what he should do to go to heaven? The man thought that he had to do something special to go to heaven. Maybe he thought he had to do a special dance or sing a song or solve a puzzle. Kids, want do you think the rich man had do to go to heaven? Well, lets see what Jesus had to say.
Jesus reminded him about the 10 commandments and said that he needs to obey all the 10 commandments. Do you know what are the 10 commandments?
That’s right! Love your God more than anything else, not to steal, not to cheat, not to tell lies, not to harm others, obey your parents.
When the rich man heard this, he was pretty proud of himself because he followed them all. He proudly said that he had obeyed them since he was a boy. Well, he thought that Jesus would say” Good job son! Now you can make it to heaven” But that’s not what actually happened.
Jesus loved the rich man and wanted to help him. Jesus said that the rich man had to one more thing. “Go back and sell all you have and give it to the poor and come and follow me. You will have a great treasure in heaven.” But the rich man does not want to sell his things because he loved his riches very much. So, he walked away sadly.
Jesus watched him leave and said to his disciples “Its very difficult for a rich man to enter the heaven”. So, do think if we are rich and have more money we can’t go to heaven? The disciples also had the same doubt. Jesus looked at them and said that with man this is impossible but with God all things are possible.
What did we learn about the rich man?
The rich man had a misplaced faith. He had faith in his riches and not in Jesus. He loved his riches more than anything else and did not want to give it to anyone.
How did God respond to the rich man?
God loved the rich man. God loves us just the way we are.
Application to our daily life
We cannot love the way God loves us, but if we really want to love Him more than anything else in our life, we need to ask His help and He will make it possible for us. We need to trust in Jesus more than anything else in this world.
Memory Verse: "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."(Mark 10:27)
Response
